office42 architecture collaborated with Perkins&Will on this Downtown shelter project designed to host 100 temporary residents, equipped with beds, showers, laundry, and dining spaces. Its location within the city comes with a unique set of challenges, as the facility is a conversion from the old Los Angeles Children's Museum to a bridge home shelter in the historic LA Mall. The facility has indoor and outdoor dining on the patio, as well as a pet area, with decomposed granite and redwood benches for outdoor communal shared space.
